Résumés in hand and answers at the ready, well over 100 CUA Law students attended the Spring 2015 Externship Fair on Jan. 27, aiming to secure employment opportunities that will help to burnish their credentials and perhaps lead to future fulltime jobs. Attendees included at least 84 1Ls, 16 2Ls, and 8 3Ls. It was a particularly strong showing from the first year class, whose participation increased by 20% from a year ago.

Held once each semester, the event invites area legal employers to interview Columbus School of Law students for externship openings that provide academic credits and invaluable experience. Students who perform well have a long history of leveraging the opportunities into permanent positions, either with their externship employer or by using their newly made professional contacts to land elsewhere.
This year, seven new employers set up tables in the law school's atrium to answer questions about what they do and what kind of law student they are seeking. In addition, students had the option for the first time of pre-interviewing-scheduling talks with exhibitors in advance in a quieter setting than the actual Externship Fair. Eighteen students were selected for a total of 25 interviews through this program. The Spring 2015 Externship Fair was managed and coordinated by Clinical Assistant Professor Lisa Martin, director of the law school's Experiential Curriculum.
