Shani Butts, Chima Okoli, and Kristina Murfin
CUA Law's Office of Admissions had a tremendous year. The most tangible contributions are easily revealed when you look at the increase in enrollment and net tuition that has occurred over the past year. According to the latest application volume data provided by the Law School Admissions Council for the 2018-2019 admissions cycle, applications were up 8.7% nationally. This trend resulted in a 3% increase in JD first-year enrollment for the same period. In comparison, CUA Law applications for the 2018-2019 admissions cycle were down 8.1%. However, our JD first-year enrollment was up 16.9%. That is 13.9% higher than the national average, despite our lower than average application volume. Not only was the office able to exceed national enrollment trends but we exceeded the law school enrollment and net revenue goals.
Highlighting contributions made by specific members of our team, we accomplished the following:
1) Mr. Chima Okoli was able to create and develop new outreach initiatives and strengthened already existing pipeline programs at partner schools via the 3+3 program. He has partnered with fraternal organizations and collegiate athletic conferences to devise and create a formalized expanded outreach program. He developed and implemented plans to contact and build relationships with community colleges in the Washington D.C. area. Mr. Okoli took the lead on planning the off campus admitted student events, saving the office over $3,500.
2) Ms. Kristina Murfin worked with Joe Ferraro to create a targeted social media campaign, allowing us to get our message to students who were most likely to apply and attend CUA Law. Ms. Murfin also planned targeted private visits to schools in South Carolina and Florida resulting in a significant increase in enrollment for students from those states.
3) Overall, we were able to enroll a class with the highest median undergraduate GPA we have seen here at CUA Law in decades.
