The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law) brought together a group of experts to discuss the impact and relevance of international religious freedom to law and politics on Wednesday, September 20. Speakers Michele Bowe, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Palestine; Piero Tozzi, staff director of the Congressional Executive Commission on China; Nadine Maenza, president of the IRF Secretariat and global fellow at The Wilson Center; and Daniel E. Lungren, former U.S. Congressman and attorney general of California came together at the Washington, D.C. offices of King & Spalding LLP to discuss the ways to broaden religious freedom on an international scale.
Moderated by William Saunders, co-director of Catholic Law’s Center for Religious Liberty, the panel discussion began with brief introductions of each speaker before culminating in a Q&A. Speakers answered questions regarding religious freedom in the developing countries, growing secularism in Europe, and the potentially increasing hostility toward faith-based freedoms in the United States.
The event concluded with a networking reception hosted by King & Spalding partner J. C. Boggs '87, chair of the Board of Visitors of Catholic Law.
