Catholic Law's Office of Career and Professional Development, in partnership with Students for Public Interest Law (SPIL), recently hosted a Lunch with a Lawyer event featuring In-House Lawyers in the Nonprofit Sector. This series aims to connect alumni and friends of the law school with current students, providing insights into various career paths and legal industries.
Logan Holmes (2D), President of SPIL, introduced attorneys Nathan Pollard and Caroline Leary, who discussed the advantages of clerking, mission-driven work, work-life balance, networking, and the importance of applying broadly to acquire skills essential for the growth of new attorneys. They emphasized their experience witnessing law students transition directly from graduation into the in-house nonprofit sector, stating, "As lawyers, you bring something with you, even if you're right out of law school."
Students were encouraged to embrace constructive criticism and to be comfortable with the fact that they won’t know everything. The informal lunch offered valuable insights for 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls about the professional opportunities available to Catholic Law students within the nonprofit in-house sector.
This Lunch with a Lawyer program was held in collaboration with the Association of Corporate Counsel Nonprofit Organizations Network (ACC), which is currently accepting applications from 1Ls and 2Ls for paid Summer 2025 In-House Internships.
