Earn Two Complementary Degrees

To assist students who wish to develop a special background in a related field by pursuing both a J.D. degree and a master’s degree, the Columbus School of Law offers joint degree programs with several graduate schools of the University. These programs require application to and acceptance by the Law School and the particular graduate school. Joint degree programs are available in the following disciplines.

Canon Law

J.C.L. / J.D.
This program awards both the Licentiate in Canon Law and the Doctor of Law degrees. Timing is flexible for this program, as the two degrees need not be awarded simultaneously.

J.D. / M.A.
Completion of the joint degree that includes a Master of Arts in History requires an additional year of coursework beyond the requirements for the J.D.

J.D. / M.S.L.I.S.
In this program, you can earn the dual degree that will prepare you for a career as a law librarian – the J.D./Master of Science in Library and Information Science.

Philosophy

J.D. / M.A.
This dual-degree offers a Master of Arts in Philosophy and a J.D. that can be completed in as little as three years.

Politics

J.D. / M.A.
Earn a Master of Arts in Politics and a J.D. by applying 12 politics credits toward the J.D. and nine law credits toward the M.A.
