Catholic University law school Professor Marshall Breger delivered a lecture, "The Vatican and Israel: Legal and Political Issues," on Feb. 24 at the University of Arizona's Hillel Center in Tucson. Breger's talk outlined the relationship between the Catholic Church and Judaism, with particular focus on post-World War Two developments. He discussed the Fundamental Agreement signed in 1993 by the Holy See and Israel in which the Holy See formally recognized Israel, creating the basis for their exchange of ambassadors. Breger also covered the politics of this relationship in the Vatican and Israel, as well the Arab world. His appearance was sponsored by the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies and was part of its ongoing Rabbi Marcus Breger Memorial Lectureship. The late rabbi was a cousin of Professor Breger.
