Most of the more than thirty people who RSVP'd for the law school's second Open House on March 4 showed up, braving a rainy afternoon to learn more about the advantages of a legal education at Catholic University. The Open House, which followed an earlier one in late January, was designed to address the many questions that prospective applicants have about pursuing a JD degree by inviting them to visit the law school, hear directly from the dean, and mix and mingle informally with members of the law school community. Open House attendees who later matriculate as students are automatically awarded a $1,000 scholarship in appreciation of their attendance.

Dean Daniel F. Attridge opened the program by welcoming the visitors and outlining the concepts of Practical, Focused, and Connected-the three pillars of a CUA law education. The dean also emphasized the inherent educational and career opportunities that come with attending law school in Washington, D.C. Next came a panel of law school faculty and staff members: Shani Butts, Director of Admissions; David Schrock, Director of Financial Aid; Laurie Lewis, Clinical Associate Professor of Law; and Maura DeMouy, Assistant Dean for Student Support. The panelists covered many procedural questions associated with applying to and financing a legal education, and also spoke about the academic support services are available to students. Open House guests then heard from a panel of students, who described their experiences at CUA Law so far. The panel took questions from the audience.

CUA Law alumni were also encouraged to participate in the two-hour Open House program. Katherine Crowley, Director of Alumni Relations, introduced four graduates to the audience who described the ways a CUA Law degree has contributed to their career and professional success. Alumni included James Anagnos, 1996, Attorney-Advisor, US Department of Health & Human Services; Molly Bryson, 1998, partner, Ballard Spahr; Leah Quaile, 2012, Neighborhood Legal Services Program; and Stanley E. Woodward Jr., 2008, counsel, Akin Gump. Following the panel presentations, Open House guests were invited to attend a reception and tour the law school's Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library.
