CUA Law Alumni Admittees with Dean Attridge and Chief Justice Roberts

Thirty seven graduates of Catholic University's Columbus School of Law were present to be formally sworn in as members of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States on December 14, 2015. Alumni traveled from California, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Michigan to participate and class years represented ranged from 1968 to 2011.

With family and loved ones looking on, Dean Daniel F. Attridge presented the CUA Law alumni for admission to the Court. The group then raised hands and swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. The ceremony was followed by a reception with Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a lecture about the history of the Supreme Court, and a luncheon hosted at the Law School.

The luncheon opened with a welcome from Dean Attridge and an invocation from Professor Kathryn Kelly, who was later followed by Associate Professor Mark Rienzi. Professor Rienzi shared his experience appearing before the Supreme Court of the United States and his journey to get there. The two cases he touched on were McCullen v. Coakley and his defense of The Little Sisters of the Poor.

To apply for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, a candidate must be a member in good standing of a state bar for at least three years, and be endorsed by two current members of the Supreme Court bar.
