CUA Law Professor Emerita Leah Wortham and CUA Law Professor Lisa Martin were plenary speakers at the Externship 8 Conference (X8) at Cleveland Marshall University, March 3-6, 2016. Wortham joined a panel of speakers on Teaching Social Justice in Externship Courses: Whether, Why, & How? Martin was a plenary speaker on Building Better Feedback along with Douglas Stone, author of the best-seller Thanks for the Feedback.

West Academic hosted a reception at X8 honoring the newly-published third edition of Learning from Practice: A Text for Legal Experiential Education (LFP) co-edited by Leah Wortham including chapters written by her as well as CUA Law Professors Stacy Brustin, Lisa Lerman, Lisa Martin and Sandy Ogilvy. The first two editions of LFP were edited by Professors Ogilvy, Wortham, and Lerman with the first edition's 15 chapters almost all authored by CUA faculty. The third edition has grown to 28 chapters and 35 authors.

LFP remains the only general textbook for externship clinical programs, and this edition emphasizes its use for other types of legal experiential courses as well. The first national externship clinical program conference in 1998 was hosted at CUA to coincide with the publication of the first edition.

Wortham also offered a concurrent session at X8 on Using Learning from Practice 3 for Effective Experiential Teaching with the LFP co-editors and another titled Steady Work: Exploring Values in an Externship Seminar.
