On October 6, the Law School community came together to make lunches for the homeless during #HashtagLunchbag. The event was pulled together under the leadership of the CUA Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and was part of CUA Law's #CUALawWellness month. Kwambina Coker (3L), president of CUA BLSA said, "We wanted to help those in need around us, but still involve the CUA Law community. This event meant a great deal to us, it was not your simple lunchbag event, but felt like something bigger. We were able to bring the CUA Law community together and accomplished our goal of making over 150 lunches." Stuart Schept, Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Registrar, was one of the staff members helping assemble lunches. He had this to say, "Our students do such a great job serving the community, particularly those who are less fortunate than we are. They really take to heart the service ethic of our school. When 3L Latena Hazard mentioned the project to me, I was happy to pitch-in. It was a fun and meaningful way to start the day." Each lunch bag had a sandwhich, chips, apple sauce, and a handwritten personal note from a student. Coker also added, "We would like to thank all of the students who participated, the faculty and staff who made this event possible, and a special thanks to Latena Hazard (3L) and Willie Burden (2L) for their dedication and hard work in planning this event."
