CUA Law Student, Veda Rasheed (3E), was appointed by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to serve on the Commission on African-American Affairs as a public member. On December 16, Rasheed was sworn in at Boards and Commissions Appointee Ceremony held at the Walter Washington Convention Center.

"I'm excited to be a part of the Commission and to advise the Mayor. More so, I am a grateful for the opportunity to serve my community and build upon the work that I've started at CUA Law," Rasheed said.

The Commission advises the Mayor, the Council, and the public on the views and needs of African-American communities with low-economic, education, or health indicators in the District and to analyze the decline of African-American residents as indicated by the 2010 United States Census.

In spring 2017, Rasheed was selected as the Mid-Atlantic Law Student of the Year by The National Jurist magazine.
