CUA Law Professor Suzette M. Malveaux was elected to The American Law Institute on December 14, 2017. The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law ALI membership is highly selective, comprising 4,400 lawyers, law professors and judges, out of over a million lawyers nationwide.

The ALI describes its role as follows: "ALI drafts, discusses, revises, and published Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. By participating in the Institute's work, its distinguished members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good."
Upon learning the news of her selection, Professor Malveaux shared, "I am truly honored to have been chosen to participate in the invaluable work of the ALI. There are a number of interesting and timely projects the Institute is working on. I look forward to joining such an amazing and inspiring group of colleagues!"
ALI President David F. Levi also shared, "I am deeply impressed by the variety and substance of the achievements of our new members." He added, "We look forward to working with these wise and accomplished lawyers, judges and academics who are committed to the important work of the ALI."
Professor Malveaux will be recognized formally at the ALI's 95th Annual Meeting May 21-23 2018, where there will be a dinner and orientation luncheon held in honor of the 44 new Institute members nationwide.
