CUA Law student, Kara-Marie Urban (1L), received the Squire Patton Boggs Public Policy Fellowship. The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation is rooted in a history of civil rights advocacy, originally funded with lawyers' fees from a pro bono employment discrimination case. Since 2004, the Foundation has awarded fellowships to exceptional law students who demonstrate a commitment to public service. Fellows commit their summers to public service and to advancing public policy by working at nonprofit institutions, government agencies and international legal organizations.

Urban will be working as a law clerk for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. Specifically, she will be working with the International Trade team. Her duties will include legislative research, cross-checking statutes and regulations, writing inter-office memoranda to the attorneys, and attending hearings on issues concerning international trade.

Reaction from Urban: "As a fellow, I will have many opportunities to advance my professional goals of working with economic policy. For example, the Squire Patton Boggs Public Policy Foundation host speaking events for the fellows throughout the summer on current public policy concerns, such as the U.S.-Transatlantic relationship. Further, as part of their mentoring program, I will be assigned a lawyer from their Washington D.C. office who will help guide me during my time as a fellow and offer me career advice to further my public policy career goals.
