On April 20, 2021, Catholic Law Professor Veryl Miles participated in an Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Faculty Focus webinar on “Navigating Faculty Politics.” As one of the program’s three featured speakers, Miles spoke about navigating faculty culture and politics within the complex system of law schools. The speakers also touched on topics like unspoken codes of conduct, historical precedents, power dynamics, and how to navigate such realities successfully (particularly for new faculty).
AALS’s Faculty Focus is a series of hour-long webinars featuring expert advice from law school leaders as well as shared experiences from law faculty early in their careers. In the Spring 2021 series, tenure-track, clinical, and legal writing faculty have spoken regarding issues facing their profession and the legal academy in general. The program also provides an opportunity for Q&A which encourages conversation and connection amongst those in the legal profession.
