On Friday, September 16, 2022, Catholic Law’s Faculty Research Colloquium series continued with a presentation from The Catholic University of America’s Center for Teaching Excellence. The group of law faculty was joined by Dr. Angela McRae, Associate Dean of Online Learning and Instructional Innovation Director, and Dr. Marissa Stewart, Assistant Director for Instructional Development and Programming, to discuss teaching resources available to university faculty as well as student engagement.
Following introductions, Dr. McRae began with a brief explanation of the Center for Teaching Excellence — which partners with the campus community to foster a dynamic teaching, learning, advising, and mentoring experience within a world-class research context — and the center’s staff. Dr. McRae then outlined the types of resources available to all individuals who teach at Catholic University, including workshops, one-on-one consultations, and a newsletter, among other things. Dr. McRae and Dr. Stewart then shifted gears slightly to discuss important general concepts to consider when thinking about student engagement (conveying the relevance of material, value of the material, and self-efficacy) before addressing more specific questions from those in attendance.
Catholic Law looks forward to future events in this series. Next month, on October 21, Professor Robert Destro will present his research with the tentative title, “A Human Rights Perspective on the Geopolitics of Food Insecurity.” For additional information regarding upcoming events, please check the News and Events page.
