On Thursday, September 22, 2022, the Contemporary Challenges in American and Global Law series met once again for a presentation on “In-house Lawyers: American Law in a Company Practice.”
Dr. Wojciech Bańczyk of JU and Aubri O’Connor, Associate Director of Leadership and Annual Giving at Catholic Law, provided opening remarks, sharing their thanks for the webinar series and the 30-year partnership between JU and Catholic Law. The group then delved into the day's topic. Together, the two speakers — Anna Bluszcz-Balcerowska (CUA-UJ IBTSLP 1998), in-house at BP, and Dr Daniel Zatorski (CUA LL.M. 2011, CUA-UJ ALP 2009), Senior Legal Counsel at Uniper — discussed the role of in-house lawyers in the legal profession. In particular, Zatorski and Bluszcz-Balcerowska outlined the variety of work for in-house lawyers (stemming both from the wide variety of industry types as well as the internationality of companies), the challenges in-house lawyers may come across, and the utility of American law and American legal practice when performing the profession of the in-house lawyer.
