On March 24, 2022, Catholic Law Professor J. Joel Alicea participated in an American Enterprise Institute (AEI) event, The Jurisprudence of Justice Samuel Alito. The conference brought together some of today’s top legal minds to consider the themes and implications of Justice Alito’s jurisprudence in his three decades as a judge.
Alicea, who is a Nonresident Fellow for AEI, spoke on the first of three panels at the conference. Alicea — along with John O. McGinnis, Pritzker School of Law; Judge Steven J. Menashi, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; and Judge Stephanos Bibas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit — discussed the overarching principles of Justice Alito’s jurisprudence. During his comments, Alicea argued that Justice Alito is an originalist.
