The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law’s Project on Constitutional Originalism and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) announced on January 23 the inaugural judges participating in its Visiting Jurist Program.

The Visiting Jurist Program brings some of the nation's most respected judges to Catholic University's campus in Washington, D.C., to participate in the life of the Law School and the programming offered by CIT. During their stay at the University, Visiting Jurists co-teach courses with faculty, participate in CIT events, and enjoy meals with faculty and students. Through the Visiting Jurist Program, CIT enhances its scholarly programming with the perspectives of leading jurists and provides opportunities for Catholic Law's students to interact with some of the country's best legal thinkers.

Dean Stephen C. Payne had this to say: “The Visiting Jurist Program is one of the many ways in which CIT has enriched the intellectual life of the Law School and provided our students with rare opportunities to speak with top-notch scholars and judges.”

The inaugural Visiting Jurists are Chief Judge William H. Pryor, Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge Paul B. Matey of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Professor Joel Alicea, co-director of CIT, said: “We are very honored to have Chief Judge Pryor and Judge Matey serve as our inaugural Visiting Jurists. They are two of the leading judges in the nation, and their dedication to American constitutionalism and keen interest in the Catholic intellectual tradition makes them ideal participants in our Visiting Jurist Program.”
