Chris Pilkerton ’99, former cabinet member of the Small Business Administration, announced the forthcoming release of Underserved: Harnessing the Principles of Lincoln's Vision for Reconstruction for Today's Forgotten Communities, the new book which he co-authored with former White House Director of Urban Policy Ja’Ron Smith. This book examines the intentions that President Abraham Lincoln had for Reconstruction in the South following the Civil War, analyzing how, following his death, their implementation was sidelined. Exploring the lasting impact which the shortcoming that actual Reconstruction has had on underserved communities up to the present day, Pilkerton and Smith’s research showcases this very real impact, demonstrating how a failure to actualize Lincoln’s plans has left a negative mark on modern America. The goal of Underserved is to present a viable strategy through which the modern conservative can realize a political plan of action “that addresses the needs of the underserved communities that make up these United States of America.”
