On February 16, Visiting Assistant Professor Asma Uddin was the keynote speaker at Thomas More University's Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III '67 Institute for Religious Liberty in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel. The event's commentator was William Madges, Ph.D., chair of the theology department and the faculty director of the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue at Xavier University. Following her keynote, Uddin stayed to answer questions from students.
The following morning, Uddin engaged students as part of a Social Issues class that looks at different social issues through the lens of Catholic social teaching with an emphasis on an exploration of rights and responsibilities that flow from human dignity. Later that day, Uddin gave a separate talk at the Islamic Center of Cincinnati.
The Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III ’67 Institute for Religious Liberty (IRL) serves to advance the American concept of religious freedom as an unalienable right and the protection of this right for all people. It was established in 2015 after several local business and educational leaders, including representatives from Hebrew Union College, discussed the need to celebrate and educate others about the constitutional privilege and right to freely worship and practice religion.
The Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel is the physical focal point and spiritual heart of the Thomas More University campus. It is also the physical representation of the University’s Catholic Identity, and it affords the campus community a spiritual space that supports and complements the pursuit of intellectual excellence and personal growth. We also welcome the broader faith community to worship here regularly, as we offer daily and Sunday mass times during the academic year. Thank you for your generous support of this vital sacred place.
