  • Patrick Murphy is a Senior Vice President and the Global Head of Litigation and Investigations for Fresenius Medical Care, the world’s largest renal care products and services business with offices in Bad Homburg, Germany and Washington D.C. Fresenius is a $19 billion global company operating in over 100 countries. Pat is responsible for the company’s global litigation, investigations as well as closely collaborating on its global compliance and corporate reputation agendas. He was recruited to Fresenius from GE Healthcare, a preeminent global medical diagnostics medical technology and digital solutions innovator with over $18billion in annual revenue, where he spent over 14 years as the General Counsel, Litigation & Compliance/Investigations. While at GE he was responsible for implementing numerous innovative programs to mitigate risk, control cost and effectively manage counsel.

    Pat has a successful track record resolving a company’s most important and sensitive government and internal investigations and litigation. He is a trusted advisor to senior management, boards of directors, and C-Suite executives on a wide range of business, compliance, governance and strategic issues, including material risk and strategies to handle, mitigate and avoid such risk in both operations and M&A.

    Pat’s experience in making voluntary disclosures to and direct negotiations with worldwide governmental agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the SEC, is informed by his deep public sector experience, which includes serving as Chief Counsel to Crime and Technology Unit of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Majority Staff and Assistant General Counsel to the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Pat was a principal drafter of The Economic Espionage Act and has considerable experience managing and conducting internal compliance investigations in numerous areas including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, (including responsibility for managing an FCPA Independent Monitorship), the Anti-Kickback statute, and the False Claims Act. Pat began his career as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps, where achieved the rank of Major.

    Pat is an adjunct professor of Law at Catholic University where he created an innovative course on Global In House practice. On a pro bono basis Pat is the General Counsel of Old Glory Rugby, a professional rugby franchise of Major League Rugby (MLR). Personal interests include coaching (football and rugby), boating and triathlon.
