Our Compliance, Investigations & Corporate Responsibility (CICR) initiative is taking shape! In May, the law faculty approved a new CICR certificate program designed with the help of Alumni Advisory Board members Julie Bowen ('87), Ann Donohue ('98), Kelly Donovan ('93), Vin Lacovara ('97), and Nancy Liebermann ('79).
Interested students will gather to talk about the new program on September 19th, and we hope to obtain final approvals from the University Graduate Board and Academic Senate later this fall. Meanwhile, our foundational courses are taking shape. Vin Lacovara ('97), CUA Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and Chief Privacy Officer, continues to teach Compliance and Corporate Responsibility; Tara Giunta ('86 ), partner, Paul Hastings LLP, has agreed to return to teach the course on Conducting Internal Investigations we developed last semester; and Kelly Donovan ('93), Managing Director KPMG Advisory Risk Consulting, and Chris Pilkerton ('99), General Counsel and Regulatory Policy Officer, U.S. Small Business Administration, will teach a new course on Risk Management next spring.
Assistant Dean for Career and Professional Development Tonya Gaskins and the Office of Career Placement and Development offered a great program on Careers in Compliance last semester, and we are in the process of seeking externship opportunities for our students.
We are working on a kick-off event that we hope many alumni will attend sometime this winter. To learn more about the CICR program vist our website or contact Professor Sarah Duggin at duggin@cua.edu.
