The Columbus Community Legal Services Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in partnership with Catholic Charities is currently offering free tax return preparation at the Catholic University of America during the 2019 tax season. The VITA program will run from February 2 to April 13 on Saturdays.
The service will be available to persons with disabilities, individuals with limited English, and individuals or families with moderate to low income. All greeters, tax preparers, and reviewers are volunteers. They go through training by CCLS professors who are highly qualified in this field and must pass an IRS certification test. The majority of preparers have a background in accounting, business, or are current students at the Columbus School of Law.
"VITA allows CUA Law students to gain experience in the tax field while providing an invaluable service to the community," VITA site coordinator Nora Senyk '17 said.
