In a November 18, 2019, press release Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley announced D. Michael Lyles ‘94 as his appointment as the city’s top lawyer. This comes after a nine-month vacancy of the position as former City Attorney Richard Melnick left the position in March. Lyles will take over for acting City Attorney Kerry Berger following confirmation by Annapolis City Council at its December 9, 2019, city council meeting. Lyles brings with him a wealth of public and government experience including Prince George’s County Human Relations Committee, Counsel and trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Defense, the Prince George’s County Office of Law, and the District of Columbia’s child welfare system.
Lyle is currently a counsel at Baltimore’s Stroud Priest, LLC and is an adjunct professor of employment law for the University of Maryland University College business school.
