Catholic Law alumnus Aaron Blank ’11 recently reached a settlement in favor of a wheelchair-bound inmate. Blank, a shareholder with the law firm Shulman Rogers in Potomac, Maryland, took up the case pro bono in 2018 and has been working to obtain closure for his client ever since. Blank typically represents plaintiffs in injury cases—including work with victims of medical malpractice, birth trauma, product liability, motor vehicle collisions, wrongful death, and veterans pursuing claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act—so despite being a pro bono case, it wasn’t too far outside his practice. Committed to justice, Blank reflected on his work,
“Taking on a challenging pro bono case like this reminds me of why I became a plaintiff’s lawyer: to represent the underrepresented; to be the David who wasn’t afraid to stand up to Goliath; and to ensure accountability of the corporations, insurance companies, and government when they choose profits and special interests over the safety of our communities.”
