The Parent Group and the Law & Technology Student Association at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law) hosted Catholic Law lecturer Christopher Savage and Catholic University’s psychology chair Dr. Brendan Rich Thursday, October 26, for a discussion on the legal and parental concerns surrounding social media. The evening event, entitled “The Legal and Parental Challenges of Social Media,” allowed day- and evening-division students who balance their studies with parenthood to witness the ways in which social media affects both the professional and personal aspects of their lives.
Rich reviewed and discussed past surveys and studies that showed the psychological effects of social media on kids, while Savage looked at the legislation attempting to regulate social media. Both agreed of the importance of a parent’s involvement or at least knowledge of their child’s social media consumption. Following the presentation Rich and Savage took questions from the students in attendance.
