The Law and Technology Institute Alumni Association (LTIAA), a body of alumni of The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law) and its Law and Technology Institute (LTI), organized an alumni-led panel discussion on Monday, February 12, to offer insights about LTI program benefits for students interested in pursuing its enhanced certificate curriculum. Consisting of two panels composed of LTI faculty and alumni, the event, entitled “Exploring Law & Tech: Program Overview and Perspectives from the Alumni and Faculty,” was the first LTIAA networking opportunity of the spring semester.
Held in the Walter A. Slowinski Courtroom, the two panels focused, respectively, on the program’s unique curriculum and the various career paths available to graduates of the institute. Contributors to the first panel—moderated by Federal Communications Commission attorney advisor Will Holloway ’19—included LTI co-director Megan M. La Belle, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; adjunct professor Chris Savage, partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP; and adjunct professor Patrick Halley ’10, president and CEO of the Wireless Infrastructure Association. In addition to discussing the certificate program’s enhanced curriculum, these panelists expanded upon the potential career paths which it offers and emphasized the strong role that LTIAA’s supportive community can play in the post-graduation job search.
Contributors to the second panel—moderated by Kelly Laughlin ’22, associate at Wiley Rein LLP—included Rebecca Murphy Thompson ’00, Vice President of Government Affairs at USCellular; Kathleen Cooney-Porter ’89, partner at Maier & Maier, PLLC; Alison Nemeth Steger ’14, Counsel for Federal Regulatory & Legal Affairs at Verizon; and Amirali Sharifi ’16, director at Sterne Kessler. These panelists discussed not only potential career paths but also the great role which externships and networking play in finding the right job after graduation.
Monday’s event was followed by a networking reception for faculty, alumni, and students in the Louise H. Keelty and James Keelty, Jr. Atrium.
