Professor Lucia A. Silecchia, Associate Dean of Faculty Research at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law), spoke at a conference—hosted by the St. John Paul II Foundation with support from the Diocese of Charlotte and Belmont Abbey College—at the Charlotte, N.C. Cathedral of St. Patrick on Saturday, March 16. Entitled “Compassion for the Sick and Dying,” the conference catered to health care professionals and addressed topics such as palliative, sacramental, and spiritual care. Silecchia’s presentation concerned legal issues at the end of life, such as assisted suicide and euthanasia, from a Catholic perspective.
