On March 22 and 23 Catholic Law's Betsy McMullen (3L), Emily Bushman (3L), and Nick Dunard (3L) took part in the 74th Annual Seigenthaler-Sutherland Cup National First Amendment Moot Court Competition. The team competed against a field of 34 teams, which represented 32 different schools from across the nation. After surviving elimination in the quarter- and semi-final rounds, Catholic Law faced a very well prepared George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School team in the final round. Prior to announcing Catholic Law as the winner, the judges announced that the two team's brief scores were only separated by one point. This is the first time Catholic Law has won the competition in 30 years.

When reaching out to the team for comment, they shared, "We are so excited and proud that we were able to win this historic competition for CUA. We are so grateful to our coach, Ned Wilkinson, for sticking with us through months of preparation." The team closed with, "We are also thankful for every Professor that helped moot us, especially Antonio Perez, whose particularly difficult questions prepared us for tough benches."
