Why did you choose to go to law school?
Lawyers are in the problem solving business. Regardless of what area of law people enter, people go to lawyers with their problems. Then the fun part of solving these problems begins.
Why Catholic Law? (prior to attending)
I initially chose Catholic Law because I have family in the area, and I like the tight-knit community here. In my experience, smaller communities like this usually are made up of similarly minded individuals. It's much more rewarding being a member of a smaller community when you can build tight meaningful relationships.
What externships or other practical experiences did you have while at Catholic Law?
I completed an externship with an incredible law firm, Walsh Colucci, in the fall. The career office recommended this firm to me, and I learned so much from this time working with practitioners. I am also a member of Moot Court and Law Review. I hope these experiences will shorten the learning curve in practice. These opportunities to focus on my writing dramatically improved my ability and confidence.
What experiences at Catholic Law were highlights for you?
I enjoy walking around campus daily. Every student here is in the same boat I am, and I like being able to connect with my peers with similar, seemingly mundane experiences. I get a lot of enjoyment out of this shared bond. I also really enjoy all the events that the school hosts. School is the time to sit in on a panel that you know nothing about, and being able to go to as many of these as possible keeps me outside of the single tracked mindset of dreading homework.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to return to Texas. I will be working in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas under the Honorable Hal Ray Jr. I plan to stay in Fort Worth after this clerkship.
Why Catholic Law now?
After spending the last three years here, I am proud of the emphasis the school puts on student leadership. I was incredibly fortunate to serve in Law Review and Moot Court, and loved being able to build a team, come up with a plan, and then execute this plan in the best way we saw fit. Resources from the school were always available on request, but I never felt compelled to do things a certain way. It felt great to be empowered in these positions. I am not sure other schools empower their students in the same way Catholic does.
