Why did you choose to go to law school?
I was inspired to come to law school after working at an immigration law firm after I graduated from college in 2020. I enjoyed working with clients and collaborating with the attorneys. Every time we made progress or completed a case, the feeling of helping someone and seeing how happy they were was so fulfilling that I wanted to continue helping more people.
Why Catholic Law? (prior to attending)
I chose Catholic Law because of all the great things I had heard from alumni about the school providing an individualized legal education while creating various opportunities for students to explore different legal fields. A second reason I chose Catholic Law was because of its Washington, DC, location. I grew up in the DC area, plus it provides me with ample legal opportunities in different fields as well.
What externships or other practical experiences did you have while at Catholic Law?
During the Fall semester of my 2L year I worked at Columbus Community Legal Services in the Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Clinic. The clinic was such a great experience. As a student attorney, I was able to take control of a case and learn how to be efficient in my work while working alongside other student attorneys effectively. Through the clinic, I was also able to volunteer at a pro-bono asylum workshop for Afghani asylum seekers, which is still the greatest volunteer opportunity I have participated in to this day.
What experiences at Catholic Law were highlights for you?
My experiences working in the Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Clinic provided me with an opportunity to practice and apply my knowledge of the law in a client-centered environment. Additionally, working on the board of the Middle Eastern Student Bar Association and the Immigrant and Refugee Interest society on campus helped me build connections with fellow law students, professors, staff, and numerous attorneys in the DMV.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on taking the DC Bar exam in July. Then I will either be working at a local immigration firm or at a nonprofit organization helping migrants who have just come to the United States.
Why Catholic Law now?
In my opinion, Catholic law is the perfect school for students who want to have a smaller class size with more opportunities to have one-on-one learning experience with professors all while having access to the same level of education and opportunities as a T10 law school. I particularly appreciate the professors; they are fantastic and are always available to help students with class material and give career advice.
