The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law) welcomed its incoming classes of 2027 and 2028 on Wednesday, August 12, 2024, with an engaging three-day orientation program to introduce new students to the key principles of legal education. This orientation united the day students of 2027 and the part-time students of 2028, fostering supportive networks within the Catholic Law community.
The first day began with breakfast in the student lounge, followed by welcoming remarks from Katherine G. Crowley, Associate Dean for Administration & Chief of Staff, and a morning address by Dean Stephen C. Payne, who officially welcomed the students to Catholic Law.
The agenda included a faculty panel on “How to Succeed in Law School: The Faculty Perspective,” where faculty members shared their expertise, insights on navigating law school, and answered questions from the newcomers.
After the panel, students enjoyed a welcome luncheon in the Louise H. Keelty and James Keelty, Jr. Atrium before heading back to Byron Auditorium for afternoon sessions led by various faculty and staff. Once the day's sessions wrapped up, students socialized in the Law School Courtyard during a gelato gathering hosted by the Student Bar Association (SBA) and the Evening Law Students Association (ELSA).
The second day provided more opportunities for day and evening students to connect with the Catholic Law community and understand law school expectations. An evening reception for the classes of 2027 and 2028 featured remarks by Dean Payne and concluded with the induction oath administered by the Honorable Rainey Brandt ’95, Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Catholic Law’s Orientation 2024 wrapped up on Wednesday, August 14, with a community service day, allowing students to connect with Brookland community members and embody Catholic Law’s mission of service.
