On Wednesday, September 18, Catholic Law's Law & Technology Institute and the Compliance, Investigations, and Corporate Responsibility Program, hosted a captivating discussion on compliance and the role of AI in the workplace. The panel featured three speakers expert in the AI and compliance fields: Brian Alexander '05, Daniel Berrick, and John Polanin '83. Moderators Keelin Ferris and Brynn Reese, both 3L students, facilitated the dialogue with exceptional poise and expertise.
The panelists explored the implications of both practical and ethical concerns, including individual autonomy, data privacy, and security concerns, as employers increasingly utilize AI tools for tasks such as interview and resume analysis. They also discussed the nature of government regulation in this evolving landscape. The speakers shared insights on the responsibilities of businesses generally and compliance officers in particular with respect to AI technologies. Audience questions enriched the discussion and covered a wide variety of topics, including the approaches lawmakers and regulators are taking to address the emerging risks from generative AI models and systems.
