Yaxue Cao, director of The Defenders: 20 Years of Human Rights Lawyers in China
On September 19, Catholic Law hosted a discussion featuring Yaxue Cao, director of The Defenders: 20 Years of Human Rights Lawyers in China. This poignant documentary showcases approximately 33 lawyers through video and audio clips, along with numerous photographs, creating a compelling portrait of the Communist Party's harsh persecution of human rights advocacy in China. During the event, Yaxue Cao presented excerpts from the film and engaged with the students about its significance. Guangcheng, a Distinguished Fellow at Catholic University and one of the lawyers featured in the documentary, was also present for the discussion. The event was sponsored by the University's Center for Law and the Human Person, the Center for Religious Liberty, and the Center for Human Rights.
