Celebrating the Class of 2024

Catholic Law’s renowned supportive community came together to celebrate the graduating class of 2024. From the University’s 135th commencement exercises honoring the graduating class to the Pay It Forward award ceremony honoring the Law and Technology Institute’s graduates, these celebrations featured numerous activities, as well as firsts such as the inaugural Ex Corde fellows induction ceremony and a U.S. Coast Guard commissioning ceremony immediately following Friday’s commencement exercises. 2024 Ex Corde Fellows Ceremony

Ex code ceremony recipientsOn May 16 the Center for Law and the Human Person (CLHP) and the Project on Constitutional Originalism and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) celebrated the newly inducted Ex Corde Fellows. Professor Kevin Walsh, Co-Director of CIT, and Professor Elizabeth Kirk, Co-Director of CLHP, welcomed those in attendance and presented the Fellows with their cords and certificates. The ceremony was held in the Walter A. Slowinski courtroom.

2024 Certificate Ceremony Celebration

All Certificate RecipientsThe 2024 Institutes and Special Programs Certificate Ceremony, held on May 16, in the Rev. William J. Byron S.J. Auditorium, invited graduates of the five certificate-issuing institutes, as well as their guests, to celebrate their achievements — having earned a level of subject mastery beyond that of the general J.D. curriculum.

The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law Celebrates the 135th Commencement Exercises

Commencement marchThe Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law celebrated its 135th Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 17. The Class of 2024, along with faculty, staff, friends, and family, gathered in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to mark the graduates’ milestone of completing their professional legal studies with Catholic Law. Casey Magersupp ‘24 was selected by her peers to speak on behalf of the graduating class and Professor Antonio Perez was selected by the class of 2024 to be the Class Marshal. The 2024 commencement speaker was Stephen M. Rasche, J.D., who was presented the Presidential Medal prior to his speech.

 

2024 Law Graduates Awarded Honors for Academic Achievement, Pro Bono Participation, and Contributions to the Community

Award recipients at commencementMajor award recipients were also recognized, with each award presented to students in both the day and evening divisions: for the John L. Garvey Faculty Award for students with the highest academic average, Alexandra Heyl(Day), and Jocelyn Near (Evening); for the Michael F. Curtin Pro Bono Award, Taylor Skala (Day) and Herman Pablo (Evening); and for the Alumni Association Award for academic excellence and service to the law school community, Hope Gouterman (Day) and Whitlee Dean(Evening).

 


Jenifer Jackson '24 Commissioned as an Officer with the U.S. Coast Guard JAG

Commissioning CeremonyImmediately following Catholic Law's 135th Commencement Ceremony on May 17, Jenifer Jackson '24 was commissioned as an officer with the U.S. Coast Guard JAG in the Walter A. Slowinski Courtroom.

LT Elizabeth Ulan '19 was the master of ceremony for the commissioning. Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Coast Guard, Calvin Lederer, performed the Commissioning and her Oath of Office. Jenifer's father, Lonnie Ballard, and Chief Warrant Officer Zarella Butler attached her shoulder boards, while her husband, Cole Jackson, implemented the cover swap.

Patrick Halley '10 Receives the 2024 LTIAA Pay It Forward Award

Patrick HalleyOn Wednesday, May 22, the Law & Technology Institute Alumni Association (LTIAA) held its LTIAA Pay It Forward Award Ceremony and celebrated the Law & Technology Institute's (LTI) Class of 2024 graduates at Wiley Rein LLP in Washington, D.C. The Pay It Forward award honors a member of the LTIAA community who embodies the spirit of the LTIAA through their support of fellow alumni and law students. The evening opened with a networking reception with the past and new members of the LTIAA.
