The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law is pleased to host the 2025 Capital Area Legal Writing Conference on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31. Faculty are invited to connect with peers at our beautiful campus in the nation’s capital.

Conference Registration Now Open

We are pleased to announce general registration is open for the 2025 Capital Area Legal Writing Conference is now open! We have a fantastic lineup of 40 presentations from faculty across the country about topics related to legal writing, lawyering skills, and pedagogy.

Registration is free! We welcome both local and out-of-town faculty to attend.

Conference Details:

  • Day 1: Friday, May 30, 2025, 1:30pm to 6:45pm ET
  • Day 2: Saturday, May 31, 2025, 10:00am to 5:40pm ET

Preconference ALWD Scholars Forum Registration Now Open

Are you a new or experienced legal writing scholar developing a paper about legal writing or lawyering skills (at any stage of development)? We welcome participation in our preconference Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD) Scholars Forum the morning of Friday, May 30 at the Catholic Law campus immediately before the conference begins! Participants will present on their project to a small group of other legal writing scholars and receive feedback. Registration is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Conference History

The Capital Area Legal Writing Conference began in 2011 at The George Washington University Law School. The Conference has also been hosted previously by The Georgetown University Law Center; American University Washington College of Law; University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law and Howard University School of Law; William & Mary Law School; University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law; and Regent University School of Law.
