How To Apply

Many of our faculty members are nationally recognized experts in their field. They are honored by peers and sought by the media to provide analysis of new legal developments. Many of our full-time professors had extensive private- or public- sector legal practice before turning to full-time teaching. They bring invaluable real-world experience into their classrooms.

Similarly, our adjunct faculty are drawn from the rich vein of legal talent in the nation’s capital. Our students benefit from the insight of instructors, active practitioners, who remain on top of the latest developments in the subjects they teach. The law school’s adjunct faculty represent an ideal combination: working attorneys and judges who translate their daily legal practice into knowledgeable voices of experience for students.

What the Catholic Law faculty write is intended to have an impact upon legislative reform, judicial interpretation, executive policy, or the scope of legal knowledge within a particular area.

The Catholic Law Scholarship Repository (scholarship.law.edu) provides open, full-text access to the Columbus School of Law’s student-edited journals and faculty scholarship, as well as providing a permanent record of the many scholarly events hosted by the Law School. It creates a virtual space where the intellectual output of the Law School can be collected, organized and preserved. The repository is a project of the Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library and the Office of the Dean of the Law School.

Recent Faculty Accomplishments

Professor Stacy Brustin, Director of the Immigrant and Refugee and Advocacy Clinic (IRAC), partnered with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Migration and Refugee Services as the principal author of a June 2021 report regarding immigration reform entitled, “A Vision Forward: Policies Needed to Protect the Best Interests of ‘Category 4’ Unaccompanied Immigrant Children.”
Professor Roger Colinvaux was one of 12 authors—all of whom are professors and scholars of the law regarding nonprofit organizations—to file an amicus brief for the Supreme Court case, Americans for
Prosperity Foundation v. Rodriquez.
As Director of the Compliance, Investigations & Corporate Responsibility (CICR) Program, Professor Sarah H. Duggin led a series of webinars regarding key topics in human rights and the impact of COVID-19. The series, which will continue in the 2021-2022 academic year, offered an overview of the pandemic’s effect on human rights issues in global supply chains, explored supply chain issues that impact small businesses, looked at how global corporations are dealing with human rights issues.
Professor Roger Hartley published his book, Monumental Harm: Reckoning with Jim Crow Era Confederate Monuments, in which he reflects on the debate over the future of Confederate monuments—at the heart of which is the question of what these monuments represent.
The fifth edition of Professor Emeritus Rev. Raymond C. O’Brien’s book, Family Law in Perspective, will be published in the fall of 2021. This new edition is dedicated to the late Walter Wadlington, late James Madison Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of law. Wadlington was a co-author of the book.
Through his work as president of the Becket Fund, Professor Mark Rienzi won two recent Supreme Court cases. He was part of the team that won the Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo case on November 25, 2020 (representing the Orthodox Jewish Synagogues during that case). Later, on Thursday, June 17, 2021, the Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision on Fulton v. Philadelphia in favor of Catholic Social Services (CSS).
