On May 6, 2021, the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) announced 17 new Immigration Judges (IJs) including Catholic Law alumnus William H. McDermott ’11. McDermott was sworn in during a virtual ceremony and in this new role will preside in formal judicial hearings and make decisions that are final unless formally appealed.
After earning his JD, from 2011 to 2019, McDermott served as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Deputy State’s Attorney, and Ad Interim State’s Attorney in Worcester County, Maryland. From 2019 to 2021, he served as the Deputy State’s Attorney for Wicomico County, Maryland.
