Professor Lucia Silecchia was interviewed as part of the Beauty at Work series. The series examines the role of beauty in the human experience, and how beauty is relevant to things like science, justice, morality, faith, work, and other aspects of our work lives.
Professor Silecchia's interview was entitled "The beauty (and ugliness) of the law". In the interview Silecchia discusses how there is beauty in the law, even in written law. She also notes a law can be unjust (ugly) and if misdirected, it could be turned into something harmful. Throughout the interview, Silecchia notes the balance of both sides of the law, how law can correct its errors and how, at its best, law expresses our highest aspirations. She also shares what drew her to the study of law, and offers advice for finding joy in a lawyer's work.
