Yusuf Khan (3L), president of the Student Bar Association (SBA) at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law), represented the Law School at the annual meeting of the American Bar Association (ABA) early in August 2023. “At the American Bar Association annual meeting in Denver, I met fellow SBA presidents from across the country, voted on game changing resolutions, and made lasting friendships,” he said in a statement to Catholic Law.
Convening in Denver, Colorado, as part of the ABA’s annual meeting, the conference began on August 4, 2023, with a general session at which attending SBA presidents met board representatives of the ABA’s Law School Division. Visiting presidents of SBAs from across the country met later that day for a roundtable discussion, the topics of which included potential collaborative mixers and future joint initiatives.
The ABA Law School Division Assembly, composed of presidents and representatives of SBAs throughout the United States, met the following day, August 5, 2023, to debate three resolutions. All three resolutions—numbered 506, 513, and 518, and which respectively concern guardianship rights, caste-based discrimination, and tribal water rights—were passed by the Assembly. These resolutions formed the crux of the Law School Division’s propositions within the ABA House of Delegates, the ABA’s policy-making body that met the following week.
