Food from the Bar (FFTB) is a campaign involving more than 30 law firms and schools in the D.C. area that raises crucial funds for the Capital Area Food Bank, which provides meals to local children and families. This year, Catholic Law participated for the first time, raising over $2,000—far exceeding its initial goal of $200.
According to the Capital Area Food Bank’s website, “Every $1 you donate provides 2 meals. Those meals make it possible for a child to focus in school, for a mom to make it through her night shift and pay her family’s bills, and for a senior citizen to avoid life-threatening illnesses.”
Catholic Law’s efforts in Food from the Bar, under the leadership of law student Keelin Ferris, will provide 4,000 meals to the community.
Megan Curran, a representative of the Capital Area Food Bank, congratulated Catholic Law for its efforts:
“The Food from the Bar Executive Committee was excited to recognize the outstanding efforts of Catholic Law and their contribution to supporting meals for children and families during the summer.”
Keelin Ferris was awarded the Law School Excellence Award for her achievement. Ferris noted that “this was Catholic's first year participating,” but assured it would not be the last. “I am honored to receive the Law School Excellence Award on behalf of The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law,” she said.
