Mary Graw Leary and Lorraine Finlay
Catholic Law's Professor Mary Graw Leary is completing a month long visit to the University of Notre Dame, Australia (UNDA), where she is teaching a course titled "Special Topics in Human Trafficking." During her time there, she embarked on a speaking tour and was invited to deliver lectures for the Eminent Speaker series in Fremantle and Sydney. In Fremantle, Graw Leary delivered a keynote address to both the University community and the public. In Sydney, she co-presented with Lorraine Finlay, the Australian Human Rights Commissioner. Graw Leary's speech highlighted the pivotal moment in the global fight against modern slavery, exploring the conflicts between transitioning to a green economy and combating forced labor. The event was featured in the article "Ending Modern Slavery Will Be a Sacrifice for Everyone," published by The Catholic Weekly on November 20.
While in Sydney, Graw Leary also collaborated with UNDA faculty member Hiruy Gebreegziabher to discuss their forthcoming co-authored book chapter, "Business Responses to Modern Slavery: A Comparative Analysis of the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act and the Australian Modern Slavery Act" featured in the Palgrave Handbook on Modern Slavery.
