2025 Soapbox Judges and winners
From L to R: Sam Winter, Spencer Peck, Jay-Jay McCargo, Joe Donnelly, and Madi Treiber

Each year, Catholic Law first-year students who are interested in joining the Moot Court Association (MCA) participate in the annual SoapBox competition. The intraschool competition gives students a taste of appellate advocacy and an opportunity to test their skills in a lower-stakes environment.

On Saturday, February 1, first-year students competed in a round-robin style tournament—with MCA members in their second and third years acting as judges. The judges for the final round were Jay-Jay McCargo, Chancellor; Sam Winter, Chief Recruiting Officer; and Madi Treiber, Chief Development Officer. Spencer Peck and Joe Donnelly were the tournament’s top two finishers. Ultimately, Peck went on to win the competition, but both were extended offers to join MCA's 2024-25 competition team.

Jay-Jay McCargo, Chancellor of the Moot Court Association, shared “Thank you to everyone who took part in Soapbox 2025! Your dedication and hard work in preparing for the event truly shone through, making it a remarkable competition.
