The Securities Law Program (SLP) at Catholic Law hosted its 41st Annual Securities Practice Group Alumni Luncheon on Thursday, March 6, at the Army Navy Club. The event welcomed distinguished alumni J.C. Boggs ’87, a partner at King & Spalding, and Summer Mersinger ’07, Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, for a thought-provoking discussion and Q&A session.
The luncheon drew an impressive crowd, including alumni from the SEC, FINRA, top law firms, financial institutions, and industry associations. Attendees also had the opportunity to connect with current students of the SLP, fostering meaningful dialogue and mentorship within the securities law community.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Catholic Law Dean Stephen C. Payne, who introduced the day’s proceedings before passing the podium to SLP Director Jack W. Murphy. In his "State of the Securities Law Program" address, Director Murphy highlighted the program’s growth, its exciting future prospects, and the remarkable achievements of its graduates in securities law.
Following his address, Director Murphy introduced the guest speakers, J.C. Boggs and Summer Mersinger. Together, they led an engaging conversation titled "Developments in the Regulation of Cryptocurrencies," offering valuable insights into this rapidly evolving area of law.
The luncheon concluded with a celebration of academic excellence, as the recipients of the 2025 Securities Law Program Scholarship for Excellence were honored. This year’s awardees included Thomas Di Biasio (3L), Christopher Drier (3L), Robert Hill (3L), and Declan Scanlon (3L).
The 41st Annual Luncheon was a testament to the strength of the SLP community, bringing together alumni, students, and industry leaders to celebrate achievements, share expertise, and inspire the next generation of securities law professionals.
