The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law (Catholic Law), in collaboration with Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, hosted a memorable jazz concert on Wednesday, March 19. Held at the residence of the Polish ambassador, the event celebrated the legacies of U.S. and Polish female jazz icons through the talents of Kuba Cichocki and Bogna Kicińska.
The evening began with welcoming remarks from Maria Łojas-Zielińska, from the Communications and Public Diplomacy Section of the Polish Embassy, who greeted guests warmly. She was followed by Bogdan Klich, Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, who spoke about the enduring friendship between Poland and Catholic Law and its significance.
Megan La Belle, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Co-Director of the Law & Technology Institute, extended a welcome on behalf of the law school, while Professor Emerita Leah Wortham, Director of the CSL-JU Partnership Programs, provided updates on the program. Wortham also highlighted the strong ties between Catholic Law and Jagiellonian University.
Following these remarks, the spotlight turned to the evening's musical performance by Cichocki and Kicińska, whose artistry paid tribute to jazz icons in an unforgettable way. The concert was followed by a lively reception that underscored the strong, connected community at Catholic Law. Guests, including students, alumni, faculty, and friends, enjoyed the chance to reconnect with one another, engage with Head of Misson Klich, and converse with the featured performers.
Looking ahead, Catholic Law’s summer abroad program will host another significant event in partnership with Jagiellonian University: "United States and Central & Eastern Europe Connection Weekend—Safeguards or Barriers: EU and US Perspectives on Regulation." This event is scheduled for June 13–14, 2025, at the historic Collegium Novum of Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.
