Professor Chad Squitieri Named Director of Separation of Powers Institute, Launches Website and Podcast

The Separation of Powers Institute (SPI) at Catholic Law recently launched its new website: spi.law.edu. The website will serve as a central hub for information relating to SPI, including public events, scholarship, and podcast recordings.

SPI was founded by Professor Jenn Mascott, who has taken leave from the law school to serve as Senior Counsel to the President in the White House Counsel’s Office, where she handles separation-of-powers issues. President Donald J. Trump has also nominated Professor Mascott to serve as General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Education, a position that requires U.S. Senate confirmation and consideration by the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Professor Squitieri has since been named Director of SPI, where he works alongside Professor Natalie Schmidt, who serves as Fellow at SPI.

SPI seeks to be a hub for academic research and debate on legal and constitutional questions related to the roles and functions of the three federal branches of government within the American constitutional order.

Podcast episodes are available on the SPI website, as well as Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Episodes are planned to feature Professor Squitieri discussing separation-of-powers topics with legal scholars, practitioners, and even students. In the inaugural episode, Professor Squitieri interviewed Professor Schmidt about her paper, “Chaney Step Zero: Judicial Review of FEC Deadlock Dismissals.”
