What is the SPIL Stipend?
SPIL offers a number of summer stipends for students who obtain summer internships in the field of public interest. This will include employment with federal or state governments, non-profit organizations, and even some small or mid-sized firms that provide legal services to individuals who are disadvantaged, underrepresented, or otherwise unable to receive services.
The summer stipends are primarily funded by the Annual SPIL Auction held in February. The applications for the SPIL Summer Stipend are usually posted in March and recipients are chosen by April.

Eric D Weissman Endowed Scholarship
Eric D. Weissman flourished in the environment provided by the law school from his enrollment in 1991 to his graduation in 1994. Among many of his achievements were Law Review Notes and Comments Editor of Volume 43, Associate of Moot Court, Semi-Finalist in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Trial Advocacy Competition, and President of Jewish Law Students on campus. A crowning achievement was meeting and marrying Miss Carol Anguilla, also a 1994 Columbus School of Law Graduate.
Unfortunately Eric died without warning, tragically in April of 1995; a year after graduation and six months after his wedding. His widow, friends, and family seeded the Eric D Weissman Endowed Scholarship as a way to carry on both his name and focus in helping the less fortunate through public and/or charitable service.
Eric D. Weissman’s legacy lives on throughout the work of the recipients of this scholarship, providing a meaningful tribute to his own life and aspirations. To learn more about the Eric D Weissman Endowed Scholarship click here.
